Couple Celebrate 55th Valentine’s Day

Residents John and Liz on their wedding day

Love is in the air at Persley Castle care home in Aberdeen, as John and Liz Forsyth mark their 55th Valentine’s Day together.

The couple, married for 53 years, enjoyed a special Valentine’s lunch prepared by the care home’s dedicated staff, featuring their favourite meal – fish and chips, accompanied with wine, followed by a sweet treat of meringue with strawberries and cream.

“Liz and I have always been happiest in each other’s company. Whether we’re out for lunch, going for a walk, or just spending time together, we’re as close now as we’ve ever been.”

John, Resident at Persley Castle

Liz (76), a resident at Persley Castle, part of Renaissance Care, and John (79) share a love story that spans decades. Originally from Dingwall, Liz attended Secretarial Training College in Inverness, while staying in the nearby village of Cannich where she met John and struck up an instant friendship.

It was the wedding of Liz’s best friend and John’s brother, where they were bridesmaid and best man, that brought the couple together. Their friendship blossomed into romance, and lead to a lifetime of love and adventure together.

Throughout their years together, they shared a love of dancing, bowling, and dining out, as well as travelling from Yorkshire all the way to Australia. They supported each other through their careers, with Liz working in catering before pursuing her passion for painting. John worked across farming, concrete production and the engineering and oil industries.

Reflecting on their enduring love, John said: “Liz and I have always been happiest in each other’s company. Whether we’re out for lunch, going for a walk, or just spending time together, we’re as close now as we’ve ever been.”

Liz echoed his sentiments, adding: “John has been so good to me all my life. We get on so well, and he never fails to make me laugh.”

The couple, who have two daughters, Julie (45) and Sherri (51), and are proud grandparents to Lucy (16) and Chloe (12), shared their secret to a lasting marriage.

Liz said: “Make sure you keep having fun and always be honest with each other.” John agreed, adding: “Be honest, have fun and always remember, happy wife, happy life!”
