Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person's liberty by another to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.

Policy Statement

Renaissance Care is a provider of social care for adults in Scotland and it is our aim to ensure safe, friendly, and stimulating places for our people to live and work. We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in our business dealings and relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own business or in any of our supply chains.

Customers are either individuals or their relatives who wish to purchase their own care or statutory bodies purchasing care on their behalf. The supply chains include the provision of staff through employment and recruitment agencies, goods, and services for the maintenance of residential care buildings, and goods and services associated with the provision of care to older adults. There is a consistent need for suppliers which provides a stability in the supply chain and procurement processes.

Our Commitment

Renaissance Care is committed to nurturing a non-discriminatory, and respectful environment for our people. We are also committed to ensuring there is transparency in our own business and in our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chains, consistent with our disclosure obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We expect the same standards from our contractors, suppliers and other business partners, and we expect that our suppliers will hold their own suppliers to the same high standards.

We have taken a number of steps to ensure that this commitment is met:

•    Promoting a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery in our business and our supply chains. We do not expect any employee or supplier to engage in, facilitate or fail to report any activity that might lead to, or suggest, a breach of this policy.
•    Recognising that prevention, detection and reporting of modern slavery in any part of our business or supply chain is the responsibility of all those working for us and any concerns should be reported without delay
•    Operating a whistleblowing policy so that all employees know that they can raise concerns about how colleagues are being treated, or practices within our business or supply chain, without fear of reprisals.
•    Our safer recruitment policy and people management processes are designed to ensure that all prospective employees are legally entitled to work in the UK and to safeguard employees from any abuse or coercion in our employment
•    Having robust remuneration processes for employees to ensure they are paid directly and not less than the minimum wage.
•    Operating a number of other policies which employees have access to that support this commitment, such as the Equal Opportunities and Discrimination Policy
•    Seeking confirmation from contractors, suppliers, employment and recruitment agencies that they have taken steps to eradicate modern slavery within their business and that they expect the same from their own suppliers

We evaluate the effectiveness of the steps taken to ensure that slavery and/or human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chain by monitoring processes to identify any concerns or reports received from employees, the public, or law enforcement agencies to indicate that modern slavery practices have been identified.

If we find that any employees, other individuals or organisations working on our behalf have breached this policy, we will ensure that we take appropriate action, such as invoking the disciplinary procedure or by terminating our relationship with the supplier.
